ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to experience rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and isolated hailstorms across its upper and central regions over the coming days, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) warning of possible damage to crops and vulnerable structures.

A westerly weather system is expected to enter the country’s upper regions on Saturday and persist until October 15, bringing intermittent spells of rain and thunderstorms, according to the PMD.

Rain forecast for Islamabad, Punjab

Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, the Galliyat region, Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Sargodha are likely to receive rain, windstorms and thunderstorms, with isolated hail, on October 10–11 and again on October 13–14.

Multan, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal and Okara may also experience similar conditions on October 10, 11 and 13.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to experience extended wet spell

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to face the longest spell of unsettled weather, with rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and isolated hail forecast in Peshawar, Swat, Dir, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan from October 10 to 15.

Intermittent rain is also expected in parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, including Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Mirpur, Kotli, Gilgit, Skardu and Hunza, during the same period.

Balochistan, Sindh to remain mostly dry

Most parts of Balochistan are expected to remain hot and dry, although isolated rain and thunderstorms may affect Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel on October 10, 11 and 13.

Sindh is also likely to experience mainly hot and dry weather over the coming days.

PMD warns of crop damage, falling temperatures

The meteorological department has warned that strong winds, hail and lightning could damage weak structures, including mud houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles and solar panels.

Hailstorms may also harm standing crops in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Light snowfall is likely over high mountains and glaciers, while daytime temperatures may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius during the forecast period.
