ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Senate on Wednesday unanimously adopted a landmark resolution commemorating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, reaffirming what officials described as an “iron-clad” partnership between the two countries.

The resolution, titled “Re-affirming China-Pakistan Friendship and Brotherhood”, was moved by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during a Senate session in Islamabad.

Addressing lawmakers, Dar congratulated the governments and people of both nations on the milestone anniversary, saying relations between Islamabad and Beijing had continued to strengthen over the past seven decades on the basis of mutual trust, respect and shared strategic interests.

He said the Pakistan-China partnership had become a key pillar for regional peace, economic development and stability, adding that Islamabad remained committed to expanding cooperation across political, economic, strategic and people-to-people sectors.

The resolution described the bilateral relationship as “historic, time-tested and iron-clad”, noting that it had endured changing regional and international circumstances through the support of successive generations of leadership in both countries.

Lawmakers also praised China’s continued support for Pakistan on matters relating to sovereignty, territorial integrity and national development. In return, the Senate reiterated Pakistan’s support for China on issues Beijing considers part of its core national interests.

The resolution reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the “One China” policy and stated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. It also expressed support for China’s positions regarding Xinjiang, Xizang (Tibet), Hong Kong and the South China Sea.

The Senate welcomed growing parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and called for stronger inter-parliamentary engagement to promote regional and global peace and stability.

It further highlighted expanding collaboration in trade, education, culture and public exchanges, saying these areas had deepened ties between the two nations and strengthened people-to-people connections.

The resolution also renewed Pakistan’s support for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as an important pillar of economic cooperation and shared prosperity.

Senators pledged to commemorate the 75th anniversary in a “befitting and dignified manner” and expressed determination to carry forward the longstanding partnership for future generations.
