ISLAMABAD: Pakistan security forces killed five Indian-backed terrorists during an intelligence-based counterterrorism operation in Balochistan’s Washuk district, state media reported on Wednesday, citing security sources.

According to state media, terrorist hideouts belonging to the Indian proxy Fitna al Hindustan were targeted using advanced weapons during the counterterrorism operation. Four other terrorists were injured.

The state has designated terrorist groups involved in terrorist activities in Balochistan as Fitna al Hindustan to highlight India’s role in terrorism and destabilisation across Pakistan.

The counterterrorism operation was conducted under Operation Raddul Fitna 3, state media said, adding that “advanced weapons and ammunition” were recovered.

“Security forces remain determined to eliminate terrorism from Balochistan,” state media said.

In their separate statements, they reaffirmed their resolve that effective operations will continue against terrorist elements, which are involved in disrupting peace and spreading fear in Balochistan.

In his statement, President Asif Ali Zardari said the conspiracies of the foreign sponsors and local facilitators of terrorists will be foiled at all costs.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his statement, said recovery of modern arms and ammunition from terrorists reflects the gravity of the challenge.

The Prime Minister said the joint national resolve against terrorism is, in fact, the guarantee of the country’s peace and security.

Terrorism in Balochistan

Balochistan has long faced a persistent threat from terrorist attacks and security challenges, prompting repeated operations by security forces and law enforcement agencies.

On October 10, the Home Department said the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had killed 10 terrorists during a targeted intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Barkhan district.

Earlier, security forces killed two terrorists in Chagai on September 29. The military’s media affairs wing reported on September 27 that more than 71 terrorists had been killed during operations in Shaban and other areas of the province.

On September 17, three terrorists were killed in an IBO in the Badrang area of Awaran district, while another three were killed in Mastung on September 14. Earlier in the month, 21 terrorists were killed in separate engagements in Nokcha, Chagai, Ziarat Cross and Pishin.

Despite these operations, terrorist attacks in Balochistan continued to rise. According to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), attacks in the province increased by seven per cent, from 83 in July to 89 in August. The report identified Balochistan as the province most affected by terrorism.
