ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces have killed 39 Indian backed terrorists during Operation Shabaan, a major counterterrorism operation launched in Balochistan following the terrorist attack on the Mangi Dam Police Station, security sources said.

Security sources said 26 members of the banned Fitna al-Khawarij were killed during operations on July 6 and 7, while 13 more terrorists were eliminated over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of terrorists killed in Operation Shabaan to 39.

The term Fitna al-Khawarij is used to refer to the banned terrorist groups, most prominently the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group.

Separately, security forces foiled a terrorist attack on a police station in the Zaidi area of Khuzdar on Friday morning. During the ensuing operation, Army and Frontier Corps (FC) troops killed eight terrorists in what security sources described as a swift action.

The sources added that helicopter operations also resulted in the killing of five to six additional terrorists.

Overall, security sources said, a total of 75 terrorists have been killed in Operation Shabaan and other intelligence-based operations carried out across the region since July 5.

Pakistan has witnessed a surge in cross-border terror incidents since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces.

Islamabad has repeatedly asked the Taliban regime to take decisive and credible action against terrorist groups based in Afghanistan; however, the Taliban regime failed to curb terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil, particularly the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Afghanistan continues to remain a major regional security concern due to the presence of terrorist groups.

TTP is involved in various terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, as the terrorist group enjoys support from the Taliban regpakistanseime and freely operates in Afghanistan.
