ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has called for stronger economic and agricultural ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, saying the two strategic partners should focus on turning their longstanding relationship into a mutually beneficial trade and investment partnership.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad.

While welcoming the Saudi dignitary, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the deep-rooted, fraternal ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and conveyed his warmest regards for the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
Focus on economic cooperation
The Prime Minister said that the recently signed Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan had brought the three countries even closer together and sent a message of unity and peace throughout the region.
He underscored that as strategic partners, both Pakistan and the Kingdom must now focus their energies towards deepening economic and agricultural ties to translate their longstanding relationship into a stronger, mutually beneficial trade and investment partnership.
He expressed satisfaction at the constructive engagement between the two sides, particularly with regard to export of agricultural products by Pakistan to the Kingdom.
“As strategic partners, both Pakistan and the Kingdom must now focus their energies towards deepening economic and agriculture ties,” the prime minister said.
He said stronger cooperation could help translate the longstanding relationship between the two countries into increased trade and investment.
Mr Shehbaz welcomed the constructive engagement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, particularly in relation to Pakistani agricultural exports to the Kingdom.
The two sides also discussed ways to improve agricultural productivity in Pakistan through technology, research and development, and more efficient use of water resources.
Agricultural experts to visit Riyadh
The prime minister announced that a delegation of Pakistani agricultural experts would soon visit Riyadh to continue discussions and explore the full potential of bilateral cooperation.
The Saudi minister thanked Mr Shehbaz for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation.
He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Pakistan in agriculture, water management and food security.
The meeting came as Islamabad and Riyadh seek to broaden their longstanding strategic relationship beyond defence and political cooperation towards greater economic engagement.
