ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Monday rejected India’s assertions concerning the mapping of the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region, saying New Delhi’s claims were contrary to internationally recognised facts.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said India’s unilateral measures and continued occupation could not alter the internationally recognised disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

His remarks followed a statement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs calling for the disputed Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh regions to be depicted according to India’s official map.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said official maps of the United Nations, which portray Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory, remain the appropriate cartographic representation of its current legal status.
“India’s so-called official maps and unilateral claims of sovereignty have no bearing on the status of the disputed territory,” the spokesperson said. He described the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as one of the oldest unresolved internationally recognised disputes on the agenda of the UN Security Council.

He said the relevant UN resolutions provide that the final status of Jammu and Kashmir should be determined in accordance with the applicable Security Council resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people through a free and impartial plebiscite conducted under UN auspices.
The spokesperson also called on the international community to press India to end alleged human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and honour commitments relating to the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination under the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
