ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reaffirmed its role as a responsible and peace-seeking nation, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressing the country would continue its sincere and dedicated efforts to promote peace and security in the region.
He expressed these views in a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday, according to a statement issued by the PM office’s media wing.
“During their warm and cordial conversation that lasted fifty minutes, the two leaders had a detailed exchange of views on the current regional situation and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region,” it said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the participation of a high-level Iranian delegation in the talks held in Islamabad on 11–12 April 2026. He also welcomed Iran’s decision to send a delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, which held important engagements in Islamabad, including a detailed two-hour meeting with the Prime Minister.

In his interaction with President Masoud Pezeshkian, the Prime Minister shared an overview of his recent diplomatic outreach to various world leaders, noting that these engagements had contributed to building broader consensus in support of sustained dialogue and diplomacy aimed at achieving lasting peace in the conflict-affected region.
He also expressed appreciation for the constructive discussions held between the Iranian leadership and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during his recent visit to Tehran earlier this month.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s firm commitment to regional peace, the Prime Minister stated that the country would continue its sincere and dedicated efforts to promote peace and security in the region.
President Pezeshkian, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their meaningful contributions to peace efforts. While reiterating Iran’s desire for peace, he expressed confidence that the fraternal relations between Iran and Pakistan would continue to grow stronger in the future.
The Prime Minister also conveyed his respectful greetings and regards to the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. Both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination moving forward.
Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif in a post on X said: “Had a warm and constructive telephone exchange this evening with my brother, President Masoud Pezeshkian, on the evolving regional situation.
“I appreciated Iran’s continued engagement, including the high-level delegation to Islamabad led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, whom I had the pleasure of meeting earlier today,” he further added.
Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed that, with the support of its friends and partners, Pakistan remains committed to serving as an honest and sincere facilitator, working tirelessly to advance durable peace and lasting stability in the region.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi termed his visit to Pakistan as fruitful, appreciating the country’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
In a post on X, he acknowledged Pakistan’s positive role in supporting dialogue and reducing tensions.
“Very fruitful visit to Pakistan, whose good offices and brotherly efforts to bring back peace to our region we very much value,” he said.
“Shared Iran’s position concerning workable framework to permanently end the war on Iran. Have yet to see if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy,” he added.

The first round of direct US-Iran talks took place in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, following a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire on April 8.
The talks helped establish rare direct channels between Washington and Tehran, laying the groundwork for continued engagement despite ongoing tensions.
