ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s support for the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, describing the agreement as an important step towards strengthening collective security in the region.
In a post on X, the prime minister said Pakistan, together with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, would continue to play a constructive role in safeguarding the defence and security of their respective countries as well as the wider region.

“Deeply appreciate President Donald Trump’s kind words of support on the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement,” Shehbaz said.
He said the three countries would work together to contribute to regional security, while emphasising their shared responsibility to protect their national interests and strengthen stability.
The prime minister also renewed his appreciation for Trump’s role in helping prevent a potential nuclear catastrophe in South Asia.
Shehbaz Sharif commended the US president for what he called “courageous and decisive leadership”, saying Trump’s efforts had helped avert a nuclear crisis and saved millions of lives.
The prime minister stressed that lasting peace remained essential for ensuring a prosperous future for the peoples of the region. “Durable peace is the most essential prerequisite for a bright and prosperous future for our peoples,” he said.

Trump has earlier welcomed the Makkah agreement, which brings Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye closer in defence cooperation amid continuing security challenges across the Middle East and South Asia.
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye signed the landmark Makkah Joint Defence Agreement earlier this month, seeking to strengthen collective security and expand military cooperation amid growing regional instability.
The agreement was signed during the Makkah Al-Mukarramah Summit for Joint Defence at Al-Safa Palace in Makkah, hosted by Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attended the summit, where the three leaders reviewed bilateral and trilateral relations and discussed regional and international developments of mutual interest.
