ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is preparing to launch a National Esports Federation as part of efforts to develop the country’s gaming industry, provide employment opportunities for young people and expand participation in international competitions.
The announcement followed a meeting of the Esports Task Force at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat in Islamabad, chaired by Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, chairman of the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.
During the meeting, Discover Pakistan TV Chief Executive Officer Dr Qaiser Rafiq presented a comprehensive proposal outlining the establishment of the federation, development of the gaming industry and opportunities for Pakistani gamers to compete internationally.
Federation to Be Launched Soon
Rana Mashhood appreciated the proposed initiative and said that, on the prime minister’s instructions, the National Esports Federation would be launched soon through a special event.

The initiative aims to provide a more organised platform for young Pakistani gamers, support digital talent and develop opportunities within the growing esports industry.
Opportunities for Pakistan’s Gaming Industry
The proposed framework also focuses on creating employment opportunities, developing gaming-related skills and strengthening Pakistan’s presence in international competitions.
Pakistan already has a presence in competitive gaming, particularly in titles such as Tekken, while the Pakistan Football Federation announced its first national FIFAe team in April 2026.
The latest government initiative could provide another avenue for developing the country’s esports ecosystem.
However, details regarding the federation’s leadership, organisational structure, funding and launch date have yet to be announced.
