ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari has praised the government’s efforts to facilitate talks between the United States and Iran during a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Earlier, Pakistan-mediated talks between the United States and Iran concluded in Islamabad after more than 21 hours of intensive negotiations, with all sides signalling that diplomatic engagement will continue.
The negotiations were led by US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, who headed their respective delegations in discussions covering a wide range of sensitive issues.
The President discussed the prevailing regional security and diplomatic environment, noting that current developments have far-reaching implications not only for the region but also for global security, as well as economic and political stability, according to a statement issued by the President’s House.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister briefed the President on all aspects of the dialogue between Iran and the United States, taking him into confidence on its progress.

He outlined the various stages of the talks and the advancements achieved through Pakistan’s mediation efforts.
The Prime Minister also apprised the President of his upcoming visits to Saudi Arabia and Türkiye aimed at further advancing diplomatic engagement and supporting ongoing peace initiatives.
President Asif Ali Zardari commended the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, the Chief of Defence Forces, and all relevant state institutions for their dedicated efforts in ensuring the success of this diplomatic initiative.
He emphasised that strong coordination among all stakeholders played a key role in facilitating such high-level engagement.
He further highlighted Pakistan’s longstanding contribution to promoting regional stability and global peace, stating that by providing a platform for critical dialogue, the country has reinforced its role as a responsible member of the international community and once again demonstrated its credentials as a facilitator of peace.
“President Zardari said that the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister should remain proactively engaged with the United States and Iran, as well as major regional and global powers, to ensure the sustainability of the peace process and regional harmony,” the statement added.
