ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has discussed the the evolving situation in the Middle East with his counterparts from the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia, Pakistan’s Foreign Office said on Saturday.

The talks came as Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian rejected a US demand for an unconditional surrender and expressed regret over Iran’s attacks on countries in the region. Meanwhile, Israel and the United States continued carrying out airstrikes against targets inside Iran.

Several Gulf States reported intercepting ballistic missiles and drones launched from Iran. At Dubai International Airport, flights were temporarily disrupted after security alerts prompted authorities to move passengers into underground train tunnels while explosions were heard nearby.

The current crisis escalated after the United States and Israel launched large-scale strikes on Iran on February 28, following weeks of unsuccessful negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme. The attacks killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei along with other senior officials, further heightening tensions and instability in the region.

“Ishaq Dar spoke with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan,” Foreign Office statement said.

“The two leaders exchanged views on the evolving regional situation and underscored the importance of peace and stability,” it said.

Ishaq Dar expressed concern over the recent attacks in the region, including those on the UAE, and conveyed Pakistan’s solidarity with the UAE and its people.

Separately, the Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister held telephonic conversation with his Malaysian counterpart Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hajji Hasan on the regional developments.

“They agreed to remain in close contact on evolving developments,” the Pakistani foreign office said.
