ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will pursue medals in cricket and Mix Martial Arts at the Asian Games on Tuesday, with the women’s cricket team facing Bangladesh for the bronze medal while the kabaddi side continues its campaign after a commanding opening victory.
Pakistan has already secured a medal in modern mixed martial arts, where Asim Khan’s run ended in the semi-finals after guaranteeing himself bronze by reaching the last four.
Pakistan women eye cricket bronze
Pakistan women will face Bangladesh in the bronze-medal match on Tuesday after Sri Lanka defeated them by eight wickets in the semi-final. Pakistan posted 177-4 in that match, with Ayesha Zafar scoring 71 and Shawaal Zulfiqar making 54, but Sri Lanka chased down the target with 13 balls to spare, led by captain Chamari Athapaththu’s unbeaten 83.

The bronze-medal clash against Bangladesh provides Pakistan with an opportunity to finish the tournament with a medal. Bangladesh reached the third-place match after suffering a heavy 114-run defeat against India, who advanced to the gold-medal final against Sri Lanka.

Kabaddi team make strong start
Pakistan opened their kabaddi campaign in emphatic fashion on Monday, defeating Malaysia 65-22 in their Group B fixture at the Tokai Citizen Gymnasium.

Pakistan established a commanding 38-11 lead by half-time and added another 27 points in the second half. The team also registered 10 all-out points in a dominant display.
Pakistan will face Nepal on Tuesday. Nepal lost their opening Group B match 59-48 against Thailand.

Asim Khan secures Pakistan’s first medal
Pakistan’s first medal of the Asian Games came in modern mixed martial arts, where Asim Khan secured bronze in the men’s under-60kg category.

Asim reached the semi-finals after defeating Cambodia’s Sopanha Pheng in the quarter-final on Sunday. He then lost his semi-final against Tajikistan’s Mirzobek Umarov at the Nagoya City Inae Sports Centre, ending his gold-medal bid but confirming a bronze medal for Pakistan.

Mixed results in other events
In swimming, Hamza Asif failed to advance from the 50-metre freestyle heats after finishing second in his heat in 24.04 seconds. His overall time placed him 30th, outside the qualifying positions.
Pakistan’s men’s table tennis team also suffered a 3-0 defeat against India, while the women’s doubles pair of Fatima Khan and Aleena Khan lost to North Korea.
There was further disappointment in soft tennis, where Pakistan’s mixed-doubles combinations suffered defeats against opponents from Indonesia, South Korea and the Philippines.
Pakistan’s mixed relay triathlon quartet of Anisha, Noor Mohammed Mustaghis, Sana Arif and Ali Hassan also failed to finish the race.
Pakistan’s men’s cricket team
Pakistan’s men’s cricket team will begin its Asian Games 2026 campaign with a quarter-final on September 28, where it will face the winner of the preliminary match involving Hong Kong, Malaysia or Oman.

If Pakistan advance to the semi-finals, they will play their next match on October 1, with the gold-medal final scheduled for October 3. The team will therefore need to win two knockout matches after the quarter-final to secure a place in the Asian Games final and compete for the gold medal.
