ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Saturday expressed disappointment at the United Nations Security Council’s failure to issue a call for a ceasefire in Gaza amid an unfolding human tragedy of colossal proportions.

In a press release, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra highlighted that despite the Secretary-General invoking Article 99 of the UN Charter and issuing warnings about the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the Security Council fell short of fulfilling its primary responsibility to uphold international peace and security. The spokesperson denounced the unprecedented and unacceptable collective punishment endured by the besieged people of Gaza.

Pakistan Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

Pakistan reiterated its plea for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to prevent a looming humanitarian catastrophe, calling on Israel to halt its barbaric attacks and inhumane siege on Gaza. Pakistan emphasized the urgent need for the UN Security Council to take action, cease the inhuman war, and protect the people of Gaza from potential genocide.

Warning of the consequences of Israel’s continued campaign in occupied Palestine, the spokesperson underscored the likelihood of prolonged human suffering, massive civilian casualties, and the forced displacement of millions.

Moreover, the statement cautioned that such actions could escalate into a broader and more perilous conflict. The spokesperson concluded by placing a heavy responsibility on those contributing to the protraction of the relentless bombing of Gaza’s population.
