ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt on Sunday reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties across trade, security and diplomacy, amid evolving regional dynamics in the Middle East.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held talks with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Islamabad.

The meeting reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the growing momentum in high-level engagement.

The two sides agreed to enhance trade and investment flows, activate institutional mechanisms such as the Joint Ministerial Commission, and promote business-to-business linkages to unlock economic potential.

“Pakistan attaches great importance to its longstanding ties with Egypt,” a statement quoted Dar as saying.

He termed the relationship as rooted in shared history, faith and converging views on key regional and international issues.

The discussions also highlighted cooperation in the health sector. Pakistan appreciated Egypt’s continued support in combating hepatitis C amid ongoing collaboration in related fields.

The defence and security cooperation also came under discussion and the two agreed to expand collaboration through training exchanges and institutional frameworks.

On the Middle East situation, ministers stressed the need for restraint, de-escalation and peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Reiterating Islamabad’s position, Dar voiced Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people. He also condemned continued Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank.

He also acknowledged Egypt’s role in facilitating humanitarian assistance to Gaza, including support for Pakistan’s relief efforts.

The two countries agreed to maintain close coordination at multilateral platforms, including the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

The visit by the Egyptian foreign minister follows recent high-level contacts, including discussions held in Riyadh earlier this month, reflecting continued alignment between the two countries on regional developments.
