ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Friday held a meeting with a delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Interior led by Major General Magdy Helal, during which both sides agreed to enhance cooperation between the interior ministries of the two countries.
The Egyptian delegation included Brigadier Essam Abu Al-Khair, Brigadier Engineer Mohammad Razi and Brigadier Dr Mohammad Munir.
During the meeting, discussions were held on expanding cooperation in the fields of security, counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, cybercrime and Safe City projects.
Both countries also agreed to strengthen collaboration between Pakistan’s National Police Academy and Egypt’s Police Academy through joint training programmes for police officers.
New avenues for bilateral cooperation
Speaking on the occasion, Naqvi said the visit of the Egyptian delegation would help explore new avenues for bilateral cooperation. He added that practical measures would be taken to further strengthen ties between Pakistan and Egypt.
The interior minister said a Pakistani delegation would soon visit Egypt to identify additional opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
He emphasised that increased collaboration between the interior ministries of both countries would reinforce bilateral relations.
Minister of State Talal Chaudhry said there were broad opportunities for cooperation between Pakistan and Egypt in the areas of counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics and internal security.
Members of the Egyptian delegation said their visits to various Pakistani institutions, including the Anti-Narcotics Force and the National Police Academy, had been highly productive.
They added that both countries could benefit from each other’s experiences in different sectors.
Naqvi also conveyed his best wishes to his Egyptian counterpart during the meeting, which was attended by the federal interior secretary and other senior officials.
