LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board has approved a major increase in players’ fees across national and domestic cricket under a new contract and payment model, as part of a wider 2026–27 budget focused on strengthening the country’s cricket structure.

The 84th meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Board of Governors (BoG) was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Mohsin Naqvi.
Surplus Budget and PSL Autonomy Approved
The Board unanimously approved a surplus budget for the 2026–27 financial year and the budget for the 12th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), while also endorsing a proposal to make the league administratively and financially autonomous.
Major Boost for Domestic Cricket
In a major boost for domestic cricket, the Board sanctioned an increase of PKR 1 billion in the domestic cricket budget, raising it from PKR 3 billion to PKR 4 billion.
New Contract Structure for Players
The meeting also approved a new central contract structure and payment mechanism for Pakistan’s cricketers, along with increased match fees for the national men’s team.
The PCB recently replaced its long-standing category-based central contract model with a five-track structure that groups players according to their format specialisation rather than placing all players under a single grading system.
The new framework comprises Track AB for dual-format Test and ODI players, Track A for Test specialists, Track BC for ODI and T20I specialists, Track C for T20 and franchise specialists, and Track D for emerging players in the development pathway.
Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Match Fees Increased
The Board also approved a substantial increase in match fees for players participating in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, with payments rising from PKR 30,000 to PKR 100,000 per match. Match fees for reserve players have also been increased from PKR 15,000 to PKR 50,000 per match.
Women’s Tournaments Approved
The BoG further approved the organisation of women’s One-Day and T20 tournaments and allocated the necessary funds for their staging.
Ground Staff Salary and Cricket Grounds
It was also decided to increase the minimum monthly salary of regional ground staff to PKR 42,000. The Board approved funding to make 12 additional cricket grounds operational and allocated the required resources for staffing and maintenance.
Infrastructure Projects
A total of PKR 6.7 billion was approved for the upgradation of the National Bank Cricket Stadium in Karachi and other cricket infrastructure projects across the country.
The Board also sanctioned funds for the installation of a biomechanics machine at the High Performance Centre in Lahore. During the meeting, the minutes and decisions of the previous Board of Governors meeting were formally ratified.
Budget Briefing
PCB Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Javed Murtaza briefed the Board on the framework and financial details of the 2026–27 budget.

The meeting was attended by BoG members Anwar Ghani, Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Ismail Qureshi, Sajjad Khokhar, Tanveer Ahmed and Adnan Malik.
Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Mir Hassan Naqvi, PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmed, PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer, all PCB directors and other officials.
