UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called for renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, warning that continued hostilities are causing severe humanitarian suffering while threatening global food and energy security, particularly affecting developing countries.
Addressing the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed deep concern over the escalation of the conflict and the growing impact of attacks on civilians, vital infrastructure and humanitarian personnel.

He condemned the loss of civilian lives and damage to civilian facilities, stressing that all parties must fulfil their responsibilities under international humanitarian law and take measures to protect vulnerable populations affected by the war.
The Pakistani envoy emphasised that there is no military solution to the conflict, stating that sustainable peace can only be achieved through sincere, continuous and meaningful dialogue between the concerned parties.
He regretted that despite the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2774 seventeen months ago, efforts to end the conflict and establish lasting peace had yet to achieve the desired progress.
Ambassador Asim reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the implementation of the resolution and called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire to provide an opportunity for diplomacy and negotiations.
He stressed that a mutually acceptable settlement, aligned with the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, the legitimate security concerns of all sides and relevant international agreements, remains the only practical way to achieve lasting peace.
The ambassador reiterated that Pakistan would continue supporting international efforts aimed at securing a just, comprehensive and durable resolution to the Ukraine conflict, while emphasising the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in addressing global crises.
