ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has sounded a severe weather alert, forecasting widespread rain, wind, and thunderstorms accompanied by isolated heavy falls that could trigger urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable regions across the country.
The advisory, issued from the federal capital, predicts heavy downpours from tonight through August 23, affecting Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, northeast Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan, while other areas will continue to experience hot and humid conditions.

Urban flooding, flash flood warnings
Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of several major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore.
Additionally, there is a significant risk of flash flooding in local streams and nullahs across Kashmir, Murree, Galiyat, and the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region during the forecast period.

Punjab: Widespread rain predicted in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, and other districts, with hot and humid weather elsewhere in the province.
Sindh: Hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail in most districts, with partly cloudy weather along the coast.
Balochistan: Hot and humid weather across most areas, though rain is expected in Musa Khel, Zhob, Khuzdar, Barkhan and adjoining areas during evening and night.
Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: Cloudy weather with rain-wind/thundershowers, with heavy falls likely in Kashmir.

Recent weather patterns
Over the past 24 hours, rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavyfalls have already occurred in Islamabad, the Potohar region, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rainfall recorded during this period included Sialkot Airport (45mm), Islamabad Zeropoint (51mm), Narowal (43mm), and Muzaffarabad Airport (41mm).
Maximum temperatures reached 46°C in Nokundi and Dalbandin, highlighting the stark contrast between the rainy regions and the scorching heat in other parts of Pakistan.
