OIC Chief All Praise for Pakistan’s Efforts to Combat Islamophobia

ISLAMABAD: In a laudatory exchange, Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), expressed deep appreciation for Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to combat and counter the rising tide of Islamophobia.

In a phone call on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari discussed with the OIC Secretary General the distressing incidents of the desecration of the Holy Quran, particularly in European countries, such as Sweden, according to state media.

Condemning these abhorrent acts, Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took the opportunity to appraise the OIC Secretary General of the significant resolution passed by the Parliament of Pakistan during a joint sitting on the 6th of this month. He also highlighted the observance of the ‘Youm-e-Taqaddus Quran’ across Pakistan on the 7th of this month, an important occasion to demonstrate the nation’s reverence for the sacred scripture.

Acknowledging the swift and decisive action taken by the OIC under the Secretary-General’s capable leadership, Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari praised the organization’s initiative in convening an Open-ended Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee in Jeddah on the 6 of this month. The issuance of a comprehensive Communiqué following the meeting was a testament to the OIC’s resolute stance against Islamophobia.

Additionally, the Foreign Minister welcomed the OIC’s decision to convene an Emergency Ministerial Meeting to address the pressing issue of Islamophobia. He further shared insights from his discussions with the Foreign Ministers of Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye regarding collective efforts to combat this concerning trend.
