ISLAMABAD: Interior Ministry has said that partial resumption of Mobile Phone service started accross the country.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Interior Ministry took decision to “temporarily suspend mobile services across the country” in light of the “deteriorating security situation” local media reported.
In a statement, the interior ministry said, “Recent surge in terrorist activities resulting in precious lives have stirred security environment in Pakistan.” Therefore, it said, “need has arisen to take steps to safeguard against” security threats.
Earlier, Pakistan’s Caretaker Interior Minister Dr. Gohar Ijaz has visited polling station on Adiala Road along with the federal secretary for Interior, Aftab Akbar Durrani. He reviewed the polling process and also interacted with the voters during his visit. The caretaker government, he said, was in the final phases of discharging its responsibities and “Inshallah soon elected representatives of the people would take over the reins.”
As polling concludes across the National Assembly’s 266 constituencies and four provicial assemblies, the process of vote counting has commenced, and results started pouring in.
With a total of over 128 million registered voters, comprising 69.2 million male and 59.3 million female, voters across Pakistan participated in casting their ballots for a record number of 17,816 candidates vying for both National and provincial assembly seats.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said that unofficial and unverified results may only be disclosed post-6 pm, with strict adherence to the code of conduct mandated for all TV channels. Any violations will result in appropriate action being taken.
