ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior vice president Maryam Nawaz is returning to Pakistan today (Saturday) to “reorganise the party,” said Marriyum Aurangzeb, a spokesperson for the party.
In October last year, Maryam Nawaz left for London, just a day after her passport was returned to her after she was exonerated in the Avenfields corruption reference. At that time, she said she was “eager” to meet her father and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, whom she met last time in 2019.
In a tweet today, Aurangzeb said that Maryam would reach Lahore by 3pm. She said: “Party leaders, including workers, and people are happily and eagerly waiting for Maryam Nawaz. She will return to the country and start the party’s reorganization.”
Maryam Nawaz leaves London for Pakistan
Maryam Nawaz left London for Pakistan on Friday and reached Dubai before she took a flight to Pakistan.
It is understood that Maryam will build the party’s election narrative.
Earlier, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah announced that Maryam Nawaz would return on January 28. He also said a “huge reception” would await her at the Lahore airport.
On Saturday afternoon, PML-N Punjab posted a video on Twitter showing Maryam boarding a plane from the UAE.
Speaking to the reporters onboard the plane, Maryam Nawaz claimed that over the past four years, the nation’s growth, which had been set in motion under the last term of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, had come to a complete halt.
She said, “Now Pakistan is paying the price of a full stop put on its development.” She hoped to remove that full stop and get Pakistan moving forwards on the path of development.
On the immense responsibility as a chief organizer, Maryam said, “I hope to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to me by the party.”
A long journey to Pakistan
Maryam flew from London to Dubai and traveled to Abu Dhabi early on Saturday morning to visit her relatives. she went to London in September to seek treatment for her throat and to meet her father, Nawaz Sharif. She underwent throat surgery in Geneva.
