RIYADH: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, has been an unwavering advocate for the rights of Palestinians, both on a national and global level. His aim is straightforward and that to garner international support for ending Israeli brutality and oppression.
Anwar does not seek to be a “champion” of the issue that has persisted for over seven decades, but rather, he is resolute in his commitment to preventing further Palestinian suffering and loss of life due to the actions of the Zionist regime.
As a compassionate human being and a devout Muslim, he is deeply moved by the plight of Palestinian children and women in Gaza who continue to endure oppression and hardship as a result of Israel’s actions. Anwar’s stance on the Palestine issue indicates that he has made it his personal mission to advocate for their cause.
When questioned about whether this is indeed his mission, Anwar responded, “We cannot set aside our responsibility as Malaysian Muslims regarding this issue.”
During his recent working visit to Saudi Arabia to attend the inaugural Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, meticulously planned his schedule, including meetings with various stakeholders and an audience with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Throughout the summit, Anwar utilized every opportunity to engage with as many Asean and GCC leaders as possible, emphasizing the Palestinian issue and the urgent need for international intervention.
At the summit chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed, where leaders were allotted just three minutes to deliver their statements, Anwar seized the opportunity to call upon the international community to address the Palestinian situation and put an end to the disproportionate treatment and hypocrisy faced by the Palestinians.
He stated, “The international community must no longer turn a blind eye to the atrocities and must address the root causes of the Palestine-Israel conflict. Without exception, human rights must be protected, and international law must be upheld.”
Anwar passionately advocated for the return of Palestinian land, homes, and properties and their right to live in peace and dignity within their own sovereign state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on internationally recognized borders.
Anwar emphasized that amidst the ongoing humanitarian crisis, the international community must come together to find a just and lasting solution to this conflict, as the consequences could lead to a regional or global conflict.
During discussions with the Muslim World League, Anwar continued to address the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, highlighting its importance and the need for a resolution. He also discussed the matter with the Secretary General of the Muslim World League, Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa.
In a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed, Anwar found common ground in recognizing the significance of this issue and the importance of facilitating the distribution of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
Anwar’s unrelenting commitment to the Palestinian cause is a testament to his dedication to justice, human rights, and international diplomacy.
