MAKKAH: The Holy Makkah Municipality and the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN) organized here yesterday a waste management workshop in preparation for the Hajj Season 1446 AH, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
According to the SPA, the workshop focused on identifying main areas to enhance in the environmental and municipal fields. Thirteen main opportunities were also highlighted, spanning the entire Hajj journey in Makkah City and the other holy sites, the SPA reported.
These opportunities also include mandating Hajj service providers to develop and implement operational waste management plans, create a comprehensive waste-reduction strategy, extend the capacity of warehouses, improve the efficiency of waste compactor containers, as well as ensure site readiness before the Hajj season, the SPA added. Pilgrim service firms will be required to pick up waste for removal at designated times, the SPA further said.
