BISHKEK: Kyrgyzstan’s President, Sadyr Japarov, has accepted an invitation from Germany’s Federal Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, to participate in the Germany-Central Asia summit, marking a significant diplomatic engagement.
The summit, a first of its kind, is scheduled to take place in Berlin on September 29, where leaders from Central Asia will come together to discuss matters of regional and international importance.
Muratbek Azymbakiev, the head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Kyrgyz Presidential Administration, confirmed the President’s participation and revealed the agenda for the trip. During his visit, President Japarov will engage in bilateral discussions with Chancellor Scholz, focusing on various aspects of Kyrgyz-German cooperation. Topics on the table will encompass the expansion of economic ties, environmental concerns, and strategies to combat climate change.
Kyrgyzstan President to Participate in High-Level Meetings
In addition to these discussions, President Japarov will also be part of a joint meeting involving Central Asian leaders and Germany’s Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier. This meeting is expected to foster regional cooperation and dialogue on key regional issues.
Furthermore, President Japarov will engage with members of the German Business Association East Committee of the German Economy, potentially paving the way for increased economic collaboration and trade opportunities between Kyrgyzstan and Germany.
This diplomatic engagement underscores the growing importance of Central Asia on the international stage. It follows the recent meeting between US President Joe Biden and the leaders of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan at the C5+1 summit, held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. The success of that summit has prompted official discussions about a Central Asia-Japan summit format, scheduled for 2024.
