RIYADH: The Saudi aid agency KSrelief has launched its Sallat Al-Khair programme in Khan Younis, Gaza, as part of its ongoing humanitarian campaign aimed at strengthening food security and supporting the Palestinian population amid worsening humanitarian conditions.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the initiative is designed to assist hundreds of thousands of vulnerable families across the Gaza Strip, providing essential food support and relief supplies to communities most affected by shortages and instability.

The launch of the programme took place in Khan Younis in the presence of representatives from the United Nations, along with officials from other international organisations and civil society groups. Their participation underlined the coordinated nature of humanitarian efforts being carried out in the region.

Alongside the new initiative, KSrelief’s central kitchen operations in Gaza have continued to play a vital role in emergency food distribution. Over a two-day period, the centre provided 50,000 hot meals to some of the most vulnerable families in central and southern parts of the territory, reinforcing immediate relief efforts on the ground.

Officials noted that Saudi Arabia’s broader humanitarian strategy is implemented through KSrelief, which has been actively engaged in delivering multi-sector assistance to Palestinians facing repeated crises and prolonged hardship. These programmes are intended not only to address urgent food insecurity but also to improve overall living conditions in affected areas.

Since its establishment in May 2015, KSrelief has carried out 152 humanitarian projects in Palestine, with a total estimated cost of approximately $537 million. These interventions span a wide range of sectors, including food security, early recovery, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), healthcare, camp coordination, education, protection services, emergency relief, and nutrition support.

Saudi officials reaffirmed that such initiatives reflect the Kingdom’s continued commitment to humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people, particularly in addressing urgent needs while supporting longer-term resilience and recovery efforts.
