PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Tuesday arrested several miscreants after they attempted to incite unrest at Bara Chowk in Khyber district, during which the miscreants damaged public and private property.
The miscreants, led by Abdul Ghani Afridi, Iqbal Afridi and Shahid Khattak, attempted to incite unrest at Bara Chowk in Khyber district. Police took immediate action to bring the situation under control and arrested those involved, security officials said.
During the incident, miscreants caused damage to public and private properties.
The provincial police took immediate action to bring the situation under control and arrested the individuals involved, security officials said.
According to reports, a large number of those arrested were Afghan nationals residing illegally in Pakistan.
Security officials said that any attempt to challenge the writ of the state, damage public property or disrupt law and order would not be tolerated, adding that legal action would continue against those found violating the law.
On Sunday, the federal government imposed emergency and Governor’s rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to effectively combat the growing threat of terrorism and improve governance in the province.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar on Tuesday highlighted the increase in terror incidents in the province and the lack of willingness by the PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to curb the menace.
He said about 2,900 terrorist incidents were reported in the province between 2021 and 2024, while the figure rose by 195 percent to approximately 8,600 over the last two years.
He said it is highly unfortunate that, at a time when security personnel and civilians were being targeted by terrorists, the PTI-led provincial government’s priority was not to curb terrorism through coordinated efforts with federal agencies, but to mobilise people for political gains.
The Law Minister said the decision concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been taken by the federal cabinet through consensus, without any dissent, to protect the people of the province and strengthen the federation.
