AMMAN, Jordan: Jordanian air defences intercepted and destroyed eight missiles launched from Iran on Thursday, state-run Jordan News Agency reported, citing the Jordanian Armed Forces.
“The interception operations resulted in the fall of shrapnel without any human casualties or material damage,” Jordan News Agency quoted the armed forces as saying.
The military said it remained on the highest level of readiness to safeguard the kingdom’s airspace, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We are operating at the highest levels of readiness to protect the kingdom’s airspace and defend its sovereignty and the safety of its territories,” the armed forces said, according to Jordan News Agency.

A military source at the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army, cited by Anadolu Agency, said the interception operations caused debris to fall in several areas but no casualties or property damage were reported. The source added that the military was closely monitoring regional developments.
The incident came as Iran and the United States exchanged military strikes for a second consecutive day.
US embassy issues shelter-in-place alert
The United States Embassy in Jordan issued a nationwide shelter-in-place order for American citizens, warning that missiles, drones or rockets had entered Jordanian airspace.
“Reports indicate missiles, drones, or rockets are in Jordanian airspace. Seek overhead cover and shelter in place immediately. Remain indoors and pay attention to local announcements and alerts,” the embassy said in a post on X.

The embassy advised US nationals to monitor local media, contact airlines directly regarding any flight changes, remain alert to their surroundings and contact Jordanian police if they faced an immediate threat. It said it would continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as necessary.
Qatar condemns Iranian attacks
Meanwhile, Qatar condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Jordan, Bahrain and Kuwait.
In a statement, Qatar’s foreign ministry described the attacks as a “flagrant violation” of the sovereignty of the three countries and of international law.

The ministry urged all parties to reduce tensions and return to diplomatic engagement. It stressed the need to protect Gulf states from “unjustified attacks” and preserve progress achieved through existing regional agreements.
Qatar also said it would support any defensive measures taken by neighbouring countries to protect their security.
Earlier on Thursday, Iranian state media reported that Tehran had launched drones targeting US military infrastructure in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.
Iran’s state-run ISNA news agency reported that Iran has fired 10 missiles at the Azraq military base in Jordan.

“The enemy command and control centre in West Asia and the Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan were targeted at 2:20pm today with 10 ballistic missiles; in the event of a repetition of aggression, other US bases in the region will not be safe from our heavy fire,” the agency quoted the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as saying.
According to the reports, Bahraini authorities repeatedly activated air raid sirens and announced that aerial threats had been intercepted.
