Jeddah Legal Conference Calls for Modernising Laws Within Islamic Sharia Framework

International gathering urges stronger integration of Sharia and contemporary legal systems while promoting research, training and legislative development.

JEDDAH: The Third International Conference on Legal and Sharia Studies concluded in Jeddah with a strong call for modernising legal frameworks and strengthening the integration of Islamic Sharia principles with contemporary legal systems to address evolving global challenges.

Held over three days under the theme “Laws and Modern Trends “, the conference, which concluded on Monday, brought together leading legal scholars, academics, researchers and experts from Saudi Arabia and several other countries to examine pressing issues at the intersection of law, Islamic jurisprudence and technological advancement.

The event featured extensive academic discussions, with participants presenting 24 research papers and 12 research posters covering a broad range of contemporary legal and Sharia-related topics.

Deliberations focused on emerging jurisprudential issues, legislative reforms and the impact of technological developments on legal systems.

In their concluding recommendations, participants stressed the need to align Arab and Islamic legislation with both domestic priorities and international developments.

They also called for greater support for applied legal research aimed at addressing practical judicial and jurisprudential challenges.

The conference further recommended expanding specialised training programmes for legal practitioners, judges and lawyers to enhance professional competence, while encouraging investment in the development of young researchers to strengthen future legal scholarship.

Delegates also highlighted the importance of promoting knowledge exchange and international academic cooperation to support innovation in legal and Sharia studies.

At the closing session, participants commended the conference’s high academic standards and organisational excellence, praising the Ethraa Almaerifa Centre for providing an influential platform that facilitated scholarly dialogue, the exchange of expertise and constructive discussions on contemporary legal and Islamic jurisprudential issues.

The conference concluded with a shared commitment to advancing legal scholarship and fostering legislative reforms capable of responding to the changing demands of modern societies while remaining rooted in the principles of Islamic Sharia.
