GAZA CITY, Palestine: Israeli strikes killed five Palestinians, including a nine-year-old boy, in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, medics and health officials said, as violence continued despite a ceasefire.
Medical sources, cited by Reuters news agency, said an Israeli drone strike killed the child, identified as Adel Al-Najjar, in eastern Khan Younis in the south of the Palestinian enclave.
A separate Israeli air strike targeted a vehicle in Gaza City, killing four people, they added.
The Israeli military said the strike in Khan Younis targeted an individual who it claimed posed a threat to its troops by approaching a “yellow line” marking a boundary area.
Regarding the Gaza City strike, the military said it had targeted a fighter, again without providing evidence.
Medics and local health officials said more than 28 Palestinians have been killed in the past week, bringing the total number of deaths since the October 2025 ceasefire to over 800.
Violence has continued despite the truce, with Israel carrying out near-daily strikes.
Israel says Hamas attacks during the same period have killed four of its soldiers.
According to Gaza health authorities, more than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the war began in October 2023.
Relatives said the child killed in Khan Younis had been collecting cardboard for cooking due to fuel shortages.
“We don’t have gas. We collect cardboard to bake, they want to eat; they want to drink,” a relative, Sabreen Al-Najjar, said as quoted by Reuters.
