BEIRUT, Lebanon: At least five people were killed Saturday, four of them from the same family, in an airstrike by the Israeli forces on a house in southern Lebanon.

The toll was confirmed by the country’s official National News Agency. “A family of four, a couple, two children and one other person were killed in an attack on a house in Kharbat Seram area,” NNA said, adding the mother was pregnant.

The strike destroyed the house and wounded at least nine other people. As many as 312 people, mostly Hezbollah fighters, and 56 civilians have been killed in Lebanon since the war between Israel and Hamas began in October.

The fighting is taking place mainly in the border areas, but there are fears of a wider conflict in Lebanon.

Last Tuesday, a Lebanese couple and their son were killed in an attack by Israeli soldiers on their house in the border village of Houra in the south of this country.

At least 10 Israeli soldiers and seven civilians were killed.

According to the Health Ministry of the Hamas-controlled area, Israel’s retaliatory operation aimed at destroying Hamas killed 30,960 people in the Gaza Strip, most of whom were women and children.

The Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon and Israel have exchanged deadly gunfire almost daily since fighting broke out in October between Israel and Hezbollah’s ally, Hamas, in Gaza.
