LONDON: A high-ranking Israeli official has expressed displeasure over the slow pace of US military support to Tel Aviv.

The official on condition of anonymity told media that Israel annually receives approximately $3.8 billion in military assistance from the US. He added that the delivery of arms and ammunition came very fast after war in Gaza began on October 7, however, they are currently very slow, raising concerns over decreasing stocks of 155 mm artillery shells and tank ammunition.

A rift between US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu surfaced on media over Israel’s military offensive in Gaza targeting civilian population.

According to the Gaza health ministry Israeli relentless bombardment has killed more than 31,000 people in the besieged Palestinian enclave, the majority women and children.

An Israeli military source told media that the international perception of the conflict in Gaza is impacting heavily on Israel and its ties with the US.

The source said the US is putting pressure on Israel to slow down the offensive which worried Tel Aviv.

Netanyahu’s position against a two-state solution and his approval of more settlements in the occupied West Bank have aggravated tensions between Israel and the US.

John Kirby, the White House national security communications adviser, however said that Washington continues to support Israel with its self-defense needs.
