WASHINGTON:  The US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States had “prohibited” Israel from carrying out strikes on Lebanon following a ceasefire agreement.

In a post on social media, he added that Washington would coordinate with Lebanon to address the issue of Hezbollah.

“Israel will not be bombing Lebanon any longer. They are PROHIBITED from doing so by the U.S.A. Enough is enough!!!” Trump said on his Truth Social network, a day after announcing the 10-day truce.

The 10-day ceasefire, announced by Washington, is intended to halt hostilities between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, although the group is not formally a signatory to the agreement.

The truce is widely seen as part of broader diplomatic efforts linked to parallel de-escalation initiatives involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Despite the agreement, tensions remain on the ground. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel had accepted the ceasefire to support diplomatic efforts, but confirmed that its forces would remain deployed in southern Lebanon.

He added that Israeli troops were working to establish a buffer zone extending roughly 10 kilometres into Lebanese territory.

Israel’s defence minister also said that the campaign against Hezbollah was not yet complete. He also warned that if the fighting resumed, displaced residents returning to the country’s war-torn south would have to evacuate again.

“The ground manoeuver into Lebanon and the strikes on Hezbollah have achieved many gains, but they are still not complete,” Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a broadcast statement.

The ceasefire comes amid ongoing regional efforts to prevent further escalation and create space for wider negotiations.wo
