Residents of Islamabad have been facing unannounced power cuts since Thursday evening after a technical fault in the national grid caused power supply disruption across the country including in the federal capital.
“Since yesterday, power outages have exacerbated with residents witnessing frequent hide and seek of electricity, ” said a frustrated resident, who works in an office in Sector F-8/4.
“The unannounced load-shedding has further put the residents at the risk of being bitten by mosquitos as the capital city is already facing an increased number of dengue virus cases,” he said.
Zafar, another resident of Islamabad said it was unfair to subject the Islooites to unannounced and frequent power cuts even though they pay their electricity bills regularly.
The recent power outages in Islamabad have also caused inconvenience to the people working in offices besides disrupting routine life and business activities.
On Thursday noon, an “accidental fault” in the national grid’s southern power transmission system left most parts of the country including Karachi without electricity for prolonged hours after several power plants tripped.
The Ministry of Energy claimed that electricity transmission lines have been repaired and electricity restored across Pakistan. However, different parts of the country including the federal capital continue to witness unannounced power outages after every few hours.
“Alhamdolillah, electricity transmission & generation have been restored across Pakistan, incl. restoration of full supply from the national grid to Karachi. Only routine load-shedding in place Hard work by Power Div & National Power Control Centre/NTDC made possible prompt restoration,” the Ministry of Energy said in a tweet.
On the other hand, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company has not announced any load-shedding schedule for the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
