LAHORE: Islamabad United posted a modest total of 171 runs against Multan Sultans in the fourth match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.

Multan Sultans captain Ashton Turner won the toss earlier in the evening and elected to field first, a decision that proved effective as his bowlers kept the United batters in check throughout the innings.

Chapman anchors innings amid regular wickets

Islamabad United’s innings never quite gained full momentum as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Openers Devon Conway and Sameer Minhas provided a steady start with a 48-run partnership before Conway fell for 26 off 23 balls. Minhas contributed a brisk 28 off 21 deliveries before departing in the ninth over.

The middle order struggled to accelerate against a disciplined Multan bowling attack. Mark Chapman emerged as the top scorer for United, smashing 40 runs off just 21 balls, featuring three boundaries and two sixes. However, his dismissal in the 15th over left United at 130 for five, with little time to rebuild.

Captain Shadab Khan managed only four runs, while Haider Ali added 13. Faheem Ashraf provided some late fireworks with a 17-ball 26, but the innings concluded at 171 for eight after 20 overs.

Momin Qamar shines with three-wicket haul

Young spinner Momin Qamar was the standout bowler for Multan Sultans, claiming three crucial wickets for just 24 runs in his three overs. Mohammad Wasim Jr also impressed with two wickets, while Peter Siddle, Mohammad Nawaz, and Arafat Minhas chipped in with one wicket apiece.

The Sultans’ bowling unit maintained consistent pressure, never allowing United’s batters to dominate. The fielding effort was equally sharp, with Steve Smith taking two catches and wicketkeeper Josh Philippe executing a sharp stumping.

Sultans eye victory in chase

With a target of 172 runs, Multan Sultans will now look to chase down the total and secure their first win of PSL 11. Islamabad United, despite posting a below-par score on a surface that offered assistance to bowlers, will rely on their bowling attack to defend the total.
