Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between Tehran and Washington on April 8 that halted the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
On April 11, Pakistan hosted high-stakes direct talks between the US and Iranian negotiators in Islamabad.
The Islamabad Talks concluded without a final agreement; however, they paved the way for further negotiations between Washington and Tehran to permanently resolve the conflict.
The war started after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28, prompting retaliatory action from Tehran against Israel and the Gulf countries.
The confrontation also contributed to disruptions in maritime traffic around the Strait of Hormuz.
Meanwhile, Fada Hossein Maleki, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, has said that most of Iran’s proposals were accepted during the latest round of talks with the United States.
In a statement, Maleki said the negotiations had achieved significant progress. However, he expressed concern over US President Donald Trump’s ‘unpredictable’ reactions in recent days.
According to reports a deal between Iran and the United States has been finalised, with the White House also acknowledging progress in the negotiations. However, the agreement is still awaiting President Trump’s approval, as he has yet to sign the draft deal.
US President Donald Trump has also shared the draft of a proposed agreement with allied countries, including Israel, regarding negotiations with Iran.
According to a report by a British newspaper, the proposed agreement includes measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and ease US blockade restrictions.
The report stated that the memorandum of understanding would grant Iran access to nearly $12 billion in frozen overseas assets. Under the proposed deal, the Strait of Hormuz would return to pre-conflict operational levels within 30 days.
The newspaper also reported that China wants the final agreement to receive formal approval from the United Nations.
