TEHRAN: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has declared that the United States has “no alternative” but to accept Tehran’s proposed 14-point framework, warning that any attempt to pursue a different path would only result in continued failure and rising costs for Washington.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media platform X, Ghalibaf said any attempt by Washington to pursue a different course would ultimately prove unsuccessful and lead only to continued setbacks in negotiations.

“There is no alternative but to accept the rights of the Iranian people as laid out in the 14-point proposal,” he stated. “Any other approach will be completely inconclusive; nothing but one failure after another.”

The senior Iranian official also warned that prolonging the dispute or delaying a decision would come at a financial and political cost to the United States.

According to Ghalibaf, continued hesitation by Washington would only increase the burden on American taxpayers. “The longer they drag their feet, the more American taxpayers will pay for it,” he added, without elaborating on the specific contents of the proposal or clarifying the context in which it was presented.

Although Ghalibaf did not provide further details regarding the 14-point initiative, his remarks come amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States over a range of issues, including sanctions, regional security and Tehran’s nuclear programme.

The statement reflects Tehran’s increasingly assertive tone in its dealings with Washington, particularly as Pakistan-led diplomatic efforts surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities and sanctions relief continue to gain momentum.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stressed that any future agreement must guarantee the country’s sovereign rights and provide meaningful economic relief.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump on Monday said he believed Iran would eventually “surrender”, adding that pressure on Tehran would continue until an agreement is reached.

The US President, in an interview with Fox News, said he has not yet made a decision on restoring “Project Freedom”, but is considering a revival of the initiative to keep the Strait of Hormuz open.

Trump reiterated that Iran must never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he had a “very simple plan” regarding Iran.

“Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Trump said, adding that Tehran had been “defeated militarily, totally”.

The US president also dismissed Iran’s latest proposal as “stupid”, saying “nobody would take it”.
