TEHRAN: Iran’s football federation (Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran) has claimed that its ticket allocation for the upcoming FIFA World Cup has been withdrawn just days before football’s global showpiece is set to begin, leaving fans who had already made travel arrangements unable to attend their national team’s matches.

In a statement, the federation said: “This is despite the fact that many Iranian football fans, relying on the officially announced process, had already made the necessary plans to attend the matches.”

The Football Federation further stated that the eight per cent quota of tickets previously allocated to Iran has now been revoked by the United States. It added that, at present, there is no possibility of distributing tickets to supporters through the federation.

According to Iranian outlet Tasnim, the decision has effectively disrupted arrangements made by thousands of fans who had booked travel and accommodation based on the official allocation system.

The development comes at a sensitive time ahead of the tournament, raising concerns over access and logistics for travelling supporters.

The situation is expected to draw further reaction from Iranian football authorities as the tournament approaches, with uncertainty over how affected fans, if any, will be accommodated.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is scheduled to start on June 11, 2026 in the United States and will run until July 19, 2026.
