DARWIN: Pakistan Shaheen maintained their dominant position against Bangladesh A on day two of the first four-day match at the DXC Arena in Darwin, thanks to Mohammad Huraira’s magnificent double century and disciplined bowling.
Starting the day at 375-2, Pakistan Shaheen added 92 runs in 17.1 overs before declaring their innings at 467-3. Mohammad Huraira, who resumed his innings unbeaten on 161, continued his onslaught to reach 218 off 247 balls, including 26 boundaries and one six. His innings was crucial in setting up Pakistan Shaheen’s commanding total.
Huraira’s partnership with Kamran Ghulam (100 not out, 161 balls, 13 fours) added 204 runs for the third wicket before Huraira was dismissed by Hasan in the 94th over. Kamran Ghulam reached his 17th first-class century shortly before Pakistan Shaheen declared their innings.
In response, Bangladesh A faced early setbacks, losing two wickets with just 23 runs on the board. However, Shadman Islam (88) and Aich Mollah (70) steadied the innings with a resilient 153-run partnership for the third wicket. Their partnership helped Bangladesh A recover after the initial blows delivered by Mohammad Ali and Khurram Shahzad, who picked up a wicket each.
Shadman and Mollah’s partnership was broken when Mollah was run out, and Shadman followed soon after, dismissed by Shahnawaz Dahani. Ariful Islam retired hurt, adding to Bangladesh A’s woes as they ended the day at 203-5, still trailing Pakistan Shaheen by 264 runs.
Pakistan Shaheen’s bowlers, including Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Ali, and Shahnawaz Dahani, each claimed a wicket, while Mubasir and Mehran remained wicketless in their spells.
