BEIRUT: Lebanese group Hezbollah has denounced Israeli strikes on Iran on Friday, warning that they threaten to “ignite the region”.

“This enemy adheres to no logic or laws and knows only the language of killing, fire, and destruction,” Hezbollah said in a statement that condemned the strikes as a “brutal” aggression.

Hezbollah Deputy Leader Naim Qassem voiced strong support for Iran, affirming backing for “all the steps and measures it takes to defend itself and its choices.”

Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli attack and stated that it is “continuing its contacts” to prevent Lebanon from being drawn into the escalating conflict.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said Israel’s strikes “did not target the Iranian people alone, but also targeted all international efforts being made to maintain stability in the Middle East and neighbouring countries”.

Aoun called on the global community to “take effective and swift action to prevent Israel from achieving its goals, which are no longer hidden from anyone”.

Israel carried out strikes against Iran on Friday, targeting its nuclear and military sites. The Israeli army said 200 jets were involved in Iran raids, striking about 100 targets.
