ROME: As bishops from all over Italy have send messages of good wishes to Muslims for Ramadan, the imam of the mosque in the city of Florence on Sunday announced to lead a special prayer for a ceasefire and peace in Gaza.
The former president of the Union of Islamic Communities of Italy, Izzedin Elzir originally from Hebron city of Palestine has been residing in Italy since 1991.
He demanded the release of both hostages and political prisoners detained in Israel adding that only Allah knows whether or not there will be a ceasefire soon, or not, but there should be faith in humanity.
He said that Ramadan is a time of peace, meditation, and spirituality. The Imam said that Muslims must not forget the situation in Gaza and Palestine and all the victims of the world.
The mayor of Florence and representatives of the city’s administration have also been invited to the prayer.
Meanwhile, several bishops in Italy have shared the call for justice and peace, starting from the Holy Land.
Muslim communities across the world are organizing charitable activities to observe Ramadan. A donation of baby food and pediatric medications for needy families has been initiated by the Misericordia Islamic Cultural Center in Fabriano city of Italy in the Marche region. All items will be donated to the local center for the needy families.
Maria Teresa Valentini, a representative of the city council thanked Islamic center in Fabriano for the initiative. She also praised the great role played in Fabriano by the Muslim community.
