ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has reaffirmed that the country’s armed forces remain fully prepared to support the civil administration and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in relief, rescue, and rehabilitation operations, a military statement said on Tuesday.
He made the remarks during a visit to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) at the Headquarters of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), said.
On the occasion, the Field Marshal received a briefing on Pakistan’s disaster preparedness and coordinated response arrangements for the ongoing monsoon season.

The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) briefed the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on the operational capabilities of the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), highlighting its technology-driven response systems.
The briefing included a demonstration of Disaster Lens 2026, which provides real-time monitoring of the ongoing monsoon situation and supports multi-hazard risk assessment and surveillance across the country, the statement said.
Field Marshal commends NDMA’s efforts
Field Marshal commended NDMA’s efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s national disaster management capacity, ISPR said.
He emphasised readiness, effective inter-agency coordination and swift response to safeguard lives and critical infrastructure.
During a recent meeting of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC), officials informed the forum that heavy rains had caused flooding in several areas, with coordinated relief and response operations underway through federal, provincial, and district authorities.

The committee was briefed that rainfall is expected to continue in northern and central parts of the country in the coming days, while isolated showers are also likely in some areas of southeastern Sindh.
Officials further noted that most deaths reported during the ongoing monsoon season were caused by the collapse of unsafe structures and poorly constructed buildings.
The committee emphasised the need for stricter implementation of building safety regulations and increased public awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.
