KABUL: The European Union (EU) has allocated €12 million for Afghanistan to support vulnerable Afghans, the EU delegation to Afghanistan said on Friday.

In a statement, the EU said the donation would be provided to its partners, the Aga Khan Foundation, the Rehabilitation Association, Agriculture Development, and the Danish Refugee Council.  It added that the fund would help the crisis-hit people in Afghanistan.

According to the statement, “Support and help include assistance to ensure sustainable food production, community-based employment, climate-smart agriculture and resilient infrastructure, income-generation, and market-oriented business development,.”

It said, “The support will benefit more than 70,000 individuals and 500,000 household members across several provinces, including Baghlan, Bamyan, Badakhshan, Samangan, Herat, Takhar, and Farah.”

The project will support the livelihood of 7000 families by improving their financial, social, and physical resources and strengthening their socioeconomic status in society. The community-based and market-oriented measures will ensure beneficiaries maintain their independence and behave more sustainably while supporting them more quickly, adjusting to and recovering from future shocks.

Investment into sustainable food production, climate-smart agriculture, and resilient infrastructure makes a huge difference to the lives of people in Afghanistan today and in the future”, said Raffaella Iodice, EU Chargée d’Affaires at the EU Delegation to Afghanistan.
