LONDON, England: England sealed an emphatic 194-run victory over Pakistan on the fourth day of the second Test at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday, taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and leaving the visitors shattered despite a heroic 97 from Saud Shakeel.
Chasing a daunting target of 389, Pakistan were bowled out for 194 in 50.5 overs, with their chase plagued by a disastrous start and a middle-order collapse that ultimately proved too steep to overcome.

The defeat marks England’s second consecutive win in the series, with the third and final Test scheduled to begin on 9 September at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Shakeel’s lone battle
Saud Shakeel emerged as the lone warrior for Pakistan, producing a magnificent innings of 97 off 122 deliveries, decorated with 13 fours and two sixes. The left-handed middle-order batter fought valiantly despite wickets tumbling at the other end, falling agonizingly short of his fifth Test century when Josh Tongue dismissed him with a delivery that ended his resistance.

Shakeel had earlier formed a crucial 97-run partnership for the fourth wicket with former captain Shan Masood (26), steadying the innings after Pakistan’s top order had crumbled. The pair helped Pakistan cross the 100-run mark and offered a glimmer of hope to the visitors.
Ali Usman also provided some resistance, adding 16 off 44 deliveries, including two boundaries, before falling to Jofra Archer.
Pakistan’s nightmarish start
The chase got off to a catastrophic start for Pakistan. Opening batter Azan Awais was trapped leg before wicket by Ollie Robinson for six off 14 deliveries on the third ball of the fifth over. Robinson struck again on the very next delivery, removing Abdullah Shafique for a duck to leave Pakistan reeling.
The situation deteriorated further when Jofra Archer dismissed captain Babar Azam for six off eight deliveries, reducing Pakistan to 14/3 after just 7.1 overs. The top-order collapse set the tone for what would be a steep uphill battle.

Robinson, Archer, Tongue seal the deal
England’s pace attack delivered a clinical performance to dismantle Pakistan’s batting line-up. Ollie Robinson led the charge with figures of 4 wickets, while Jofra Archer claimed crucial breakthroughs, including the prized scalp of Babar Azam. Josh Tongue finished the job in the final session, dismissing Shakeel before removing Khurram Shahzad (9) and Ali (8) to seal victory for the hosts.
Earlier in the day, England had been bowled out for 208 in their second innings, with Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas producing a stellar bowling performance. Abbas claimed figures of 5/57 from 22 overs, completing his eighth career five-wicket haul and earning a place on the Lord’s Honours Board.
England resumed the day at 177/7 after a rain-affected third day, adding 31 runs before being dismissed. Dan Lawrence top-scored with 54 off 70 deliveries, while Josh Tongue was run out by Babar Azam for 12.

First-innings dominance
England’s victory was built on their first-innings performance. Asked to bat first, the hosts recovered from 243/9 to post 290, thanks to a crucial 47-run 10th-wicket partnership between Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson.
The England bowlers then produced a devastating display, dismissing Pakistan for just 110 in 37.2 overs to secure a commanding 180-run first-innings lead. Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq was unable to bat in the second innings due to injury.
