WASHINGTON: US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz has said President Donald Trump remains determined to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, while keeping the door open to renewed negotiations with Tehran.
In a post on X, Waltz said Trump would continue applying “maximum pressure” on Iran to prevent it from holding the world hostage with a nuclear weapon.
President Trump is determined to ensure Iran can never hold the world hostage with a nuclear weapon, and he will continue to apply maximum pressure to that end.

“At the same time, the door is open for Iran back to the negotiating table if they do so in good faith,” Waltz said.
His remarks signal that the Trump administration continues to combine pressure on Iran with a willingness to engage diplomatically if Tehran agrees to return to negotiations in good faith.
Earlier on Sunday, US President Donald Trump said he was “open” to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian after Tehran sent a list of demands for terminating the war.

Speaking to Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst, Trump said “very big things” would happen in the “not-so-distant future” and warned Iran that it “better behave”. He said he was weighing options that included reaching a deal, allowing Iran to face further economic pressure or taking military action.
“There the choices on the table for Iran included wiping them out, letting them rot economically, or making a deal,” Trump told Fox News, as Yingst said. The US President said: “My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up? They better behave.”
