BENGHAZI, Libya: Libya’s eastern authorities have announced the postponement of a critical reconstruction conference for the flood-hit city of Derna, which had initially been scheduled for October 10. The decision to delay the conference until November 1-2 has raised international scepticism.
The committee responsible for organizing the conference cited the need to provide companies and design offices with adequate time to prepare their projects as the primary reason for the postponement. This emphasizes the significance of effective planning and coordination in the reconstruction process.
The postponement of the conference signifies a considerable setback in the ongoing efforts to rebuild Derna, a city that has faced severe devastation due to the recent floods. The delay in reconstruction planning may impact the affected residents, prolonging their displacement and hampering the recovery process.
Furthermore, the international community’s skepticism regarding this postponement underscores the importance of transparent and accountable reconstruction efforts. It highlights the need for clear and efficient coordination to ensure the timely and effective rebuilding of the flood-affected city.
