BEIRUT: More than 1,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks across Lebanon since early March, the country’s health ministry said on Thursday, as violence intensifies despite a ceasefire agreement.

The ministry said at least 1,001 people had been killed and 2,584 injured since March 2, including 118 children and 79 women among the dead. Among the wounded, 365 were children and 414 women.

It added that 33 people were killed and 152 were injured in the past 24 hours alone.

Israel has ramped up airstrikes across Lebanon amid ongoing cross-border exchanges with Hezbollah, despite a ceasefire that has been in place since November 2024.

Israeli media reported that Tel Aviv is considering occupying the first line of villages in southern Lebanon to prevent attacks from the area.

The escalation comes against the backdrop of a wider regional conflict following a joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran that began on February 28.

Iran has since launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes targeting Israel as well as US-linked sites across Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries.
