NEW YORK, USA: More than three decades after Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere’s high-profile marriage came to an end, their children from subsequent relationships have come together to write an unexpected new chapter in Hollywood’s most tangled family trees.

Homer Gere, 26, the son of Richard Gere and his second wife Carey Lowell, and Kaia Gerber, 24, the daughter of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, star together in the new FX series “The Shards”, a project that has brought together two heirs of Hollywood royalty who had never even met before filming began.

The pair walked the red carpet together at the series premiere in New York City on Monday, reflecting on their unlikely on-screen partnership and the irony of their parents’ shared history.

Crawford and Richard Gere were married from 1991 to 1995, a relationship that produced no children but remains one of the most talked-about unions of the era.

‘We hadn’t met before shooting’

Speaking to E! News on the red carpet, Homer Gere revealed that the two had no prior relationship before being cast together.

“It’s really funny,” said Gere, whose previous acting credits include a role in “Euphoria.” “We hadn’t met before shooting. Two weeks before, we met at a bar with all the other cast and we became friends.”

When asked by AP News if she knew Homer prior to filming because of their parents’ connection, Gerber responded with playful humour: “What connection?”

The lighthearted exchange underscored the fact that while their parents’ past relationship is a matter of public record, the two young stars approached their collaboration with no preconceived notions, allowing a genuine friendship to develop naturally.

‘He makes me laugh so hard’

Gerber, who has built an impressive career as both a model and actress, had nothing but praise for her on-screen partner.

The younger Gere is “so funny,” Gerber told E! News. “He makes me laugh so hard, and he’s the greatest scene partner ever.”

The mutual admiration suggests that whatever awkwardness might have existed given their family history quickly evaporated on set. Instead, the pair discovered a creative chemistry that has translated into their performances in the highly anticipated series.

A father’s guidance

“The Shards” marks just Gere’s second major acting project after his breakthrough role in “Euphoria,” and the rising star admits he still leans heavily on his famous father for guidance.

“It’s not like I’m sending him a scene and being like ‘How would you do this?’ It’s more like how do you carry yourself on set, how do you make this career work for you in a way that is beneficial and do your best work,” Gere told E! News.

He revealed that his father remains his most trusted mentor in navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry.

“I call him almost every day when I’m on set,” Gere said. “He’s really the most invaluable resource, in terms of making this work for me. So, it’s really special to have him in my corner.”

Hollywood’s interconnected legacy

The pairing of Gere and Gerber adds another fascinating layer to Hollywood’s web of interconnected relationships. The fact that the children of two former partners have now become collaborators speaks to the peculiar intimacy of the entertainment industry, where personal histories often collide with professional opportunities.

For Gerber, the project represents another step in establishing herself as a serious actress beyond her modelling career. For Gere, it is an opportunity to build on his early promise and carve out a name independent of his famous father.

Both stars appear to have approached the project with maturity and professionalism, turning what could have been an awkward dynamic into a creative partnership that has already generated significant buzz.

‘The Shards’: What to expect

Based on the acclaimed novel by Bret Easton Ellis, “The Shards” is one of FX’s most anticipated releases of the year. The series delves into themes of obsession, identity, and the dark underbelly of 1980s Los Angeles, a fitting backdrop for a cast that carries the weight of Hollywood’s own complicated legacy.
