ISLAMABAD: Chinese battery maker Dongjin Group plans to invest $15 million to establish a battery manufacturing plant in Pakistan’s Faisalabad industrial hub, Pakistani officials said.
The Chinese manufacturer and its local partners aim to capitalize on the growing demand for electric vehicles, solar power systems, and energy storage solutions.
The proposed manufacturing facility will be established in Allama Iqbal Industrial City, a Special Economic Zone developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) and Dongjin Power Tech of China have already signed an agreement on the planned investment for a battery-making plant in Pakistan’s textile hub.
Officials said the project would strengthen Pakistan’s domestic battery manufacturing capacity and help reduce dependence on imported energy storage products.
The investment is expected to support rising demand for electric vehicles, solar installations and backup power systems as Pakistan accelerates adoption of renewable energy technologies.
The agreement was signed by PBIT Chief Executive Officer Zeeshan Shabbir Rana and Dongjin Power Tech representative Hu Ge during a ceremony attended by government and industry officials.
PBIT Director, Marketing, Sharqui Ali Tipu, said the Chinese company identified strong growth potential in Pakistan’s battery market due to expanding adoption of renewable energy and increasing interest in electric mobility.
Punjab government officials said the project would create employment opportunities, stimulate industrial activity, and facilitate the transfer of manufacturing technology and technical expertise.
Pakistan has stepped up efforts to attract foreign investment into industrial manufacturing and clean energy sectors under broader plans to modernise industry, localise supply chains and reduce pressure on fuel imports.
Allama Iqbal Industrial City near Faisalabad has emerged as one of Pakistan’s major destinations for Chinese industrial investment projects in engineering, electronics and technology manufacturing sectors.
