BEIJING: China has expressed disappointment over the United States using a veto power to block a draft United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza war, Chinese state media reported on Tuesday.
China’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun has expressed his strong disappointment and dissatisfaction with the US veto.
The United States on Tuesday vetoed a draft United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution, for the third time, blocking a call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The US linked the temporary ceasefire to the release of hostages held by Hamas.
China’s UN envoy, Zhang said the US veto sends a wrong message, and pushed the situation in Gaza into a more dangerous one.
He added that opposition to ceasefire in Gaza is just like giving a green light to the continued slaughter of Palestinians.
