BEIJING: China’s military officials said on Sunday that it has conducted combat exercises around Taiwan, the second such drill in less than a month.
According to a statement issued by the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command, its troops had organized “joint combat readiness patrols and actual combat drills” in the airspace and sea around Taiwan.
The statement added that the aim of the combat exercises was to examine joint combat abilities and “resolutely pawn the provocative acts of Taiwan independence separatist forces and external forces”.
Combat Exercises
China conducted similar exercises in December, with Taiwan reporting that forty-three Chinese aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait’s median line. In August, Beijing staged war games close to Taiwan after a trip to Taipei by the then US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Reuters reported.

Global Times reported that this is for the 1st time that the People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command announced a joint exercise around the Island of Taiwan in the current year.
